BATON ROUGE, La.
- Looking to snap a three-game losing skid, the Alcorn State University women's basketball program travels to Southern University tomorrow for a 5:30 p.m. duel at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

This will be the first round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament as the Lady Braves (9-20, 9-9 SWAC) enter as the fifth seed and the Lady Jags (13-13, 11-7 SWAC) the fourth. The semifinals and finals will be played in Houston at the Toyota Center.

Alcorn most recently dropped a 69-60 decision at Prairie View where senior Brianna Luton tallied a team-high 15 points. She converted 3-of-4 long-distance attempts, marking the 13th SWAC contest in which she has made multiple threes.

Juniors Alexus Freeman (12.9) and Tia Sanders (10.8) and Luton (10.5) are averaging double figures in league play. Luton also ranks second in the SWAC in three-point field goal percentage (.389) and threes made per contest (2.1).

The Lady Braves split the series against Southern this season and holds a 2-3 record against the Lady Jags under head coach Courtney Pruitt. During Pruitt's tenure, Alcorn is 2-0 at home, 0-2 on the road and 0-1 in neutral site games against Southern.

The Lady Jags can really share the rock; they rank atop the league with 14.7 assists per game.

Duo Briana Green (15.2) and Cortnei Purnell (11.4) sit in the top-15 of the SWAC in scoring. Green, Purnell and Miaya Crowder are fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in field goal percentage during conference play.

Purnell secured 11 points and 13 rebounds in the first matchup between the two teams, a game in Lorman that Alcorn won 69-63. Crowder neared a double-double (10 points, nine boards) in Southern's 45-33 win over the Lady Braves in Baton Rouge.

NOTES
- Junior Miracle Rushing's 3.2 offensive rebounds per game ranks second in the SWAC.

- The number 70 has a significant impact on Alcorn's W-L record. The Lady Braves are 12-1 in league play when scoring 70-plus points.

- Alcorn has locked down opponents from three-point range to the tune of 23.0 percent (41-178), which ranks atop the league.

- Senior Henrietta Wells' 2.9 blocks per game ranks atop the SWAC and ninth in Division I. She has recorded at least one block in all but one contest and multiple blocks in 22 including 13 of the last 15.

- The Lady Braves have lost depth due to injuries to Dejah Joshua, Bridgejae Patterson and Brianna Tolliver. Joshua and Patterson each participated in one contest this season while Alcorn has been without Tolliver, a double-digit scorer in two of the first five games, for 24 straight games.
