LORMAN, Miss. – Playing its first home game in 26 days, the Alcorn State University baseball program will host the SWAC East Division leader Jackson State in a three-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m. at Willie "E" Rat McGowan Stadium.

Alcorn (9-23, 5-10 SWAC) will look to win its second straight series after taking two of three from Mississippi Valley State last weekend. The Braves outscored the Delta Devils 27-6 which included wins of 11-3 and 13-0.

Brandon Barna blasted two homers in the series opener. He homered in the same inning as older brother
Justin Barna as they combined for three home runs in the contest.

Wallace Rios Jimenez is on a league-leading 29 game on-base streak. Rios ranks third in the SWAC in on-base percentage with a .477 mark. He also leads the team with a .352 batting average and 12 multi-hit games.

Brandon Barna carries a .327 average into the weekend, while senior
Kirt Cormier is at .307.

Expected to start on the mound Sunday is sophomore
Carlos Lopez. He hoists a 4-3 record with a 3.65 ERA on the year and threw a complete-game shutout in his last outing.

Alcorn's biggest inning has been the eighth where it has outscored opponents 24-16.

JSU (29-11, 15-3 SWAC) has been hot as of late and swept defending champion Alabama State last weekend in a three game series.

The Tigers have a team ERA of 3.40. Jonathan Aponte is 6-1 on the year with a 2.5 ERA, and Miguel Yrigoyen is 6-2 with a 2.87 ERA.

At the plate, Lamar Biggs leads the way with a .395 batting average and 35 RBI. Jesus Santana has a .309 average with seven homers and 48 RBI.

Alcorn is tied for third-place in the division standings with Alabama A&M. The Braves are four games ahead of fifth-place MVSU in the loss column.
