HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With the opportunity to surpass Alabama A&M in the SWAC East Division standings, the Alcorn State University baseball program will square off with the Bulldogs in a three-game series at Bulldog Field.

Game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, game two 3 p.m. Saturday and game three 1 p.m. Sunday.

Alcorn (10-26, 6-12 SWAC) is in fourth-place in the division, but just one game behind AAMU (10-36, 7-11 SWAC). The Braves can leap ahead of the Bulldogs by two games with a sweep. Alcorn is four games ahead of Mississippi Valley State in the loss column for fifth.

Junior
Wallace Rios Jimenez is on a league-leading 33 game on-base streak. Rios ranks fourth in the SWAC in on-base percentage with a .466 mark. He also leads the team with a .333 batting average and 12 multi-hit games.

On the mound, sophomore
Conrado Skepple the SWAC with five saves on the year. Fellow sophomore
Carlos Lopez carries a 3.68 ERA into the weekend and a 37:13 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Alcorn's biggest inning has been the eighth where it has outscored opponents 27-20. The Braves are 9-1 this year when leading after eight innings.

Last weekend, the Alcorn defeated Jackson State 9-6 in the middle game of the series. It snapped JSU's 12-game winning-streak.

The Bulldogs took two out of three from MVSU last weekend. Cornelious Woods leads the team at the plate with a .307 average and 14 extra-base hits. Brandon Marsonek is the team's best pitcher with a 2.74 ERA in 85.1 innings and has made 32 appearances this year.

The 2017 SWAC Championships is slated for May 17-21 in New Orleans. The top four teams from each division will qualify.
