LORMAN, Miss. – Looking to end the season on a high-note and carry momentum into the SWAC Championships, the Alcorn State University baseball program will host Alabama State in a three-game series at Willie "E" Rat McGowan Stadium.

The series will kick-off with a 6 p.m. contest Friday, followed by a 3 p.m. start Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. The series finale will also be Senior Day as the Braves (11-28, 7-14 SWAC) honor nine student-athletes before the game.

All three games can be heard on radio via 91.7 FM or wprl.org with Charles Edmond as the voice of the Braves.

Alcorn has clinched a berth to the SWAC Championships. It is currently the No. 4 seed from the East Division and can move up to No. 3 with a sweep over Alabama State and a Jackson State sweep over Alabama A&M.

Junior
Wallace Rios Jimenez is on a league-leading 35 game on-base streak. Rios ranks fourth in the SWAC in on-base percentage with a .462 mark. He also leads the team with a .333 batting average and 13 multi-hit games.

In conference play, sophomore
Brandon Barna hits for a team-high .387 average along with a .415 on-base percentage and .500 slugging. He's hitting for a .325 mark on the year.

On the mound, sophomore
Conrado Skepple ranks second in the SWAC with five saves on the year. Fellow sophomore
Carlos Lopez carries a 3.68 ERA into the weekend and a 37:13 strikeout to walk ratio.

Alcorn's biggest inning this year has been the eighth where it has outscored opponents 28-21. The Braves are 9-1 when leading after eight innings.

The Hornets (24-23, 15-6 SWAC) can still win the SWAC East Division with a sweep over Alcorn and an AAMU sweep over JSU. They are two games behind the Tigers with three to play, although JSU does have the tiebreak over ASU after winning the head-to-head series.

Cage Cox leads ASU with a .364 batting average with five homers. Gustavo Rios heavily aids the attack with a .315 average, eight homers and 41 RBI. Joseph Estrada is another big bat with a .300 average, nine homers and 25 RBI. Tyler Howe is the team's ace with a 6-4 record and 3.65 ERA.

The 2017 SWAC Championships is on May 17-21 in New Orleans at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
