LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State University volleyball program is on the road to start the week as the Lady Braves travel to Florence, Ala. for a 6 p.m. match at North Alabama.
"I want our girls to go out there and give their best," said head coach Chelsey Lucas, "and our best is playing with heart and being consistent. We're preparing ourselves for conference play and we have to continue to grow to be competitive. In order for us to win, we can't have these ups and downs."
Freshman Fiapaipai Iosia earned her third consecutive All-Tournament Team honor last weekend at the Jacksonville State Tournament after she led Alcorn with 14 kills and 17 digs. Freshman Daharri Thompkins finished the three matches with seven kills, an assist, an ace, a dig and a solo block. Freshman Jasmine Chambers contributed 29 assists with an ace, 11 digs, and a pair of block assists. Junior Alondra Rivera Modesto recorded a team-high three blocks, with junior Singryd Valadares and freshman Ashley Samuel adding two blocks each.

UNA (6-2) went 4-0 at the Dunn Hospitality Invitational last Friday and Saturday, earning wins over Cedarville, Northwood, Purdue Northwest, and host Southern Indiana. Lexie Bradley, Ashtyn Kapovich, Christina Ellwanger, and Jessica Austin were each named to the All-Tournament Team.
Bradley leads the Lions with 141 kills and 16 aces, followed by Austin with 114 kills . Kapovich has a team-high 36 assists. On defense, Kapovich has made 179 digs. Austin and Madison Ruble have each tallied 22.0 blocks, followed by Bradley with 17.0.
Tuesday's match is the home opener for the Lions and will be the first meeting between the two programs.
