LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State University volleyball program welcomes Concordia (Ala.) to the Davey L. Whitney Complex Friday night for doubleheader action. The first match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start, followed by the second match at 6 p.m.
"I'm very excited for our girls going into this doubleheader," said head coach Chelsey Lucas. "The team is ready to go and if we come in and play smart volleyball and take care of the details, there is no reason we shouldn't come away with two wins."
Freshman Fiapaipai Iosia and junior Singryd Valadares lead Alcorn with 54 and 52 kills respectively. Freshman Jasmine Chambers has earned 138 assists and freshman Octavia Dixon has served five aces. Iosia leads the defense with 120 digs, followed closely by freshman Kaylyn Latin with 108. Junior Alondra Rivera Modesto owns a team-high 15 blocks, while Valadares and freshman Daharri Thompkins have each registered 10.

Friday marks the third and fourth meeting between the two programs with Alcorn owning a 2-0 mark in the all-time series. The teams last met on October 3, 2015 in a tri-match at Tougaloo. The Lady Braves won in straight sets 25-21, 25-18, 25-21. Sophomore Simone Joiner recorded five kills with four blocks and a dig. Senior Brittney Dumas finished with four kills, a block and six digs. Senior Lurlethia Jones also scored four kills and added a block and a dig.
The matches mark Greek Night for the team, with the Lady Braves encouraging the Alcorn Greek community to come show their support and wear their respective letters.
