LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State University volleyball program hosts Jacksonville State in a 1 p.m. contest Tuesday afternoon at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

Junior Singryd Valadares leads the Lady Braves with 36 kills, followed closely by freshman Fiapaipai Iosia with 32. Iosia owns a team-high 83 digs and earned All-Tournament honors at the Tennessee State Tournament last weekend. Junior Alondra Rivera Modesto has recorded 10 blocks to pace the Alcorn defense.

JSU (4-3) went 2-1 at the Western Carolina Invitational Aug. 25-26 to start the season and split its four matches at the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic last Friday and Saturday, hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette. The Gamecocks are 1-0 against SWAC competition this season, defeating Mississippi Valley State in straight sets in their second match of the day Sept. 1.
Allyson Zuhlke and Charis Ludtke lead the team on offense with 79 and 74 kills respectively. Jennifer Hart has 224 assists while Zuhlke has recorded seven aces. On defense, Hannah Kirk enters the match with 127 digs. Mackenzie Rombach and Kaylee Frear have combined for 40 blocks.
Alcorn is looking for its first win against JSU, with the Gamecocks leading the all-time series 4-0. The teams met on Sept. 7 and Sept. 20 last season, with Jacksonville State taking both matches in straight sets.
