LORMAN, Miss. – After a cold, frigid week on campus, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program will look to get hot when it hosts Alabama A&M at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Alabama State at 7 p.m. Monday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
The Braves (5-14, 1-5 SWAC) picked up their first SWAC win last weekend when they shot down Mississippi Valley State 77-63 on the road.
Senior
A.J. Mosby poured in a career-high 23 points and sophomore
Maurice Howard drained 20 points, the second-most in his career. As a team, the Braves were 12-for-19 (.632) from long-range and Mosby and Howard combined to go 11-for-15 (.733). Alcorn posted its third straight win over MVSU.
Mosby averages a team-high 13.2 points per game and is shooting team-bests of .852 from the free throw line and .380 from beyond-the-arc. Mosby leads the conference in assist:turnover ratio with a 2.2 mark. He also ranks fourth in the SWAC in both field goal percentage (.505) and in assists (3.5 apg).
Just under double-figures, junior
Dante Sterling averages 9.9 points per game, while Howard scores 9.6 points per game. Though in conference games, Howard nets 10.8 points per outing.
AAMU (2-16, 2-3 SWAC) has wins this season over MVSU 66-55 and Grambling State 71-64. Arthur Johnson and De'Ederick Petty each average 10.2 points per game to lead the team.
ASU (3-14, 3-2 SWAC) defeated AAMU 70-67 last weekend. The Hornets also beat MVSU 63-46 and GSU 74-66. ASU is paced by Reginald Gee who scores 13.1 points per game and shoots .831 from the free throw line. Jacoby Ross also averages in double-figures with 12.3 points per outing. Ross leads the SWAC in three-point percentage with a .429 mark.

- The Braves are 15-5 at home over the last two seasons.
- Alcorn has won the last four in a row against Alabama A&M. The Braves swept the Bulldogs in the season series last year and are 4-0 in the series under head coach
Montez Robinson.
- The Braves swept the season series against the Hornets last year and are 3-1 under Robinson.
- Alcorn is shooting .357 from long-range as a team in conference games. Mosby is 13-31 (.419), while Howard is 16-41 (.390).
- On the season, Alcorn leads the conference in field goal percentage (.422), assists (12.9 apg) and three-pointers made per game (8.1). The Braves are second in field goal percentage defense with a .443 clip.
- The Braves are undefeated this year when they shoot over 50 percent from the field.
- In his third season, Robinson hoists a 27-15 SWAC record. He's tallied back-to-back second-place finishes with 13-5 records in conference. It was the first back-to-back winning seasons at Alcorn in 15 years. Robinson is the reigning SWAC Coach of the Year winner.
- Tragedy struck Alcorn at Tulane when senior
Reginal Johnson broke his right leg. Johnson was taken off on a stretcher and transported to a nearby medical facility after an air cast was placed on his leg. Johnson is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
