Lady Braves Drop Midweek Doubleheader at No. 25 LSU

BATON ROUGE – Gaining experience against a nationally ranked opponent, the Alcorn State University women's tennis program fell in a pair of 4-1 results at 25th-ranked LSU on Wednesday at the LSU Tennis Complex.
 
LSU (5-1) played shorthanded and forfeited No. 6 singles in both matches. However, the Lady Tigers have three singles players nationally ranked in the top-75.
 
The most competitive match of the day came at No. 5 singles where Alcorn (0-3) junior Marlene Maier lost 6-3 in the first set, but held a 2-1 edge in the second when the match was called. Maier's result came after she registered a 6-4, 6-4 victory over West Alabama's Katie Burrall in the season-opener on Jan. 23.
 
In the second leg of the doubleheader, sophomore Klavdija Bukovec battled to win four games in an unfinished match at No. 4 singles. She was down 6-3, 5-1 when LSU clinched.
 
Alcorn announced its men's and women's matches at New Orleans on Thursday have been postponed. No makeup date has been set yet. The Lady Braves will return to the court Saturday when they head to Southeastern Louisiana for a noon serve. Alcorn beat SLU 5-2 last season.
