LORMAN, Miss. – In the midst of a five-game home stretch, the Alcorn State University soccer program will take the field Friday at 4 p.m. against Southern, and Sunday at 1 p.m. against Jackson State at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium.

The weekend presents a key opportunity for the Lady Braves (0-10, 0-5 SWAC) to move up in the conference standings. With the top-eight teams advancing to the SWAC Championships, the Jaguars (2-8-1, 1-4-1) currently sit in eighth, while the Tigers (1-13, 1-5 SWAC) are in ninth.

Alcorn has scored three goals this season including two from senior
Yaira Guardado who also leads the team with 17 shots. Guardado is one of two Lady Braves to start in all 10 games along with freshman defender Shalisa King.

Kameran Proby has blocked 46 saves, while junior

Southern is coming off a 2-2 tie against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Lauryn McKinney paces the office with two goals and 11 shots on the year.

JSU's lone win this year came on Oct. 5 when it topped UAPB 3-1. Jalah Carter has scored three goals for the Tigers, while Alexis Henriquez has netted two.

The Lady Braves are looking to beat the Jaguars for the third consecutive year after winning 3-2 last season and 4-2 in 2016. Alcorn is seeking its first-ever victory against the Tigers.
