Lady Braves Set to Host Talladega Friday

LORMAN, Miss. – Stepping away from conference play, the Alcorn State University volleyball program will take on Talladega College at 6 p.m. Friday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

The match will not be live streamed due to a scheduling conflict with soccer.

Alcorn (5-13, 3-6 SWAC) continues to play without its leading attacker, freshman Sydney Joseph, after sustaining an injury against Alabama State. The Lady Braves dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Mississippi Valley State in their last outing Monday.

Sophomores Mae Lewis and Daharri Thompkins have stepped up in Joseph's absence. They both notched 11 kills against the Delta Devilettes. Junior Barbara Cabo tallied a double-double of 38 assists and 13 digs from the setter position.

"This is an important match for us and we're approaching it the same way we would a conference match. We've had a good week of practice but need to be able to execute over an entire match without having any lapses," said Alcorn head coach Chelsey Lucas.

Talladega (12-9, 5-4 GCAC) has won three straight matches including 3-0 results over Judson College and Rust College and 3-1 over Philander Smith. Alcorn will be the team's first Division I opponent.

Friday marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Alcorn will remain at home Tuesday when it hosts a Tri-Match starting at 2 p.m. against Southern-New Orleans and Lane College.
