LORMAN, Miss. – A closely contested match just didn't go in favor of the Alcorn State University soccer program as Jackson State slipped past with a 1-0 result Sunday at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium.
 
The lone tally came in the 59th minute. Nadia Hernandez made a run down the left side for JSU (2-14, 2-6 SWAC) and found Patricia Calderon in the center near the penalty kick mark. Calderon turned to her left and shot into the left side of the net.
 
The Lady Braves (0-12, 0-7 SWAC) had a few chances late, but JSU goalkeeper Bianca Clemente was able to make key saves to keep Alcorn off the board.
 
Senior Yaira Guardado paced the Alcorn offense with four shots including two on goal. Sophomore Mireya Gonzalez fired two shots, while junior Maya McInnis and senior Vanessa Monge each took one.
 
In net, junior Giselle Rojas played the full 90 minutes and blocked 10 saves to keep the game within reach.
 
The Lady Braves will remain at home next weekend when they host Prairie View A&M at 4 p.m. Friday and Texas Southern at 1 p.m. Sunday on Senior Day.
