Lady Braves Conclude Non-Conference Play with Tri-Match against Lane & SUNO

LORMAN, Miss. – With the second SWAC Round-Up meet lurking this weekend, the Alcorn State University volleyball program will host Lane College at 2 p.m. and Southern-New Orleans at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
 
Both matches will be streamed live for free on the Alcorn Youtube channel.
 
"This is an important tri-match for us as we get ready for SWAC Round-Up this weekend. It's imperative that we're playing our best heading into conference we have to be able to execute and stay focused in these matches tomorrow," said Alcorn head coach Chelsey Lucas.
 
The Lady Braves (6-13, 3-6 SWAC) will look to carry momentum into Tuesday after cruising to a 3-0 victory over Talladega College in their last outing Friday. Freshman Sydney Joseph returned to the lineup after missing the previous two matches due to injury and slammed a team-high eight kills.
 
Joseph leads Alcorn on the season with 146 kills and a 2.65 per set average. Sophomore Mae Lewis has come on strong as of late and is second on the team in kills with 133.
 
Sophomore Fiapaipai Iosia remains among the nation's leaders in services aces. She's second in the country with 51 aces, and third in aces per set with 0.77. As a team, the Lady Braves rank ninth in the nation in aces per set with 1.77. Iosia also leads Alcorn in digs with 215.
 
Lane College enters play with a 4-19 overall record and 2-14 in the SIAC. SUNO is 2-12 overall and 2-7 in the GCAC. It's Alcorn's first-ever meeting against both programs.
 
The tri-match is a Pink Out for Alcorn.
