JACKSON, Miss. – The Alcorn State University volleyball program will continue conference play when it travels for road matches at Jackson State on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at TB Ellis Gym, and at Mississippi Valley State on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Harrison HPER Complex.

Alcorn (5-11, 3-4 SWAC) will look to shake off a pair of tough 3-0 defeats to Alabama A&M and Alabama State. The Lady Braves have conference victories this season over Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0, Grambling State 3-0 and Southern 3-2.

"These are two big matches for us at JSU and MVSU. We need to play good, fundamental volleyball and remain focused. The intensity we had at our last SWAC Round-Up matches is needed for every match for us to be successful in conference," said Alcorn head coach

Sophomore
Fiapaipai Iosia ranks second in the nation in total service aces with 45 and third in the country in aces per set with 0.83. As a team, the Lady Braves are 11th in the nation in aces with 1.80 per frame.

Iosia also leads the team in digs, averaging 3.24 on the year. Sophomore
Kaylyn Latin has also seen time at libero and averages 2.56 digs per set.

Alcorn's leading attacker, freshman
Sydney Joseph, went down with an injury in the first set against ASU on Monday. Senior
Alondra Rivera Modestoa is second on the team with 113 kills and hits for a .195 percentage.

The Lady Braves have rotated setters all season with junior Barbara Cabo, sophomore
Jasmine Chambers and freshman
Jurnee Calhoun all pitching in.

JSU (6-14, 4-1 SWAC) is coming off a big 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday. The Tigers went 4-1 at the first SWAC Round-Up before having a bye from conference play this past weekend. JSU's high-powered offense is led by Tielar Richards and Camry Dabney who averaged 2.37 and 2.34 kills per set, respectively.

MVSU (2-18, 0-6) is looking for its first conference win. The Delta Devils have victories this season over Cowleys Ridge College and Dillard University. They dropped five-setters to Southern and Grambling at the SWAC Round-Up. Tyler Caliste puts up 2.24 kills per frame to lead the offense.

Alcorn is 29-31 all-time against JSU and 45-34 against MVSU.
