Lady Braves Go Back to Work Tuesday at Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. – A weekend off from competition helped rest an injured Alcorn State University women's basketball program regroup as the Lady Braves will take the floor again at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Northwestern State at Prather Coliseum.
 
The Lady Braves (0-3) were down to just eight student-athletes in uniform in their last outing against Southeastern Louisiana. Alcorn fell behind early but battled until the end and finished the game on a 10-1 run.
 
Through three games, senior De'Asia Brown leads Alcorn with 10.7 points per outing. She's coming off a career-high 19 points against Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday.
 
Junior Toddriana Isler has been a big contributor with 9.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. She started the season with a big 18 points and 12 rebounds against Lane College.
 
Junior Charisma Walker is the team's leading rebounder with 6.7 per game and also averages 7.0 points. She tallied 10 points and eight rebounds in the season-opener against Lane. Walker has pulled down at least five rebounds in every game this year.
 
Northwestern State is off to a 1-2 start this year with a win against LeTourneau 100-40 and losses at Arkansas 98-53 and Oklahoma 93-56.
 
The Lady Demons have three student-athletes averaging in double-figures including Nautica Grant with 11.3 points per outing and is shooting .438 (7-16) from three-point range. Kira Bonner puts in 11.0 points per game and Libba Gilliam averages 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per outing.
 
An experienced NSU squad returned all five starters from a year ago. Additionally, the Lady Demons brought back a fifth-year point guard Gabby Bell who missed last season due to injury.

NOTES
- Alcorn is 4-6 all-time against Northwestern State but have won two of the last three meetings. The Lady Braves won 66-64 in 2010-11 and 70-60 in 2011-12, but the Lady Demons took the last match-up 55-50 in 2012-13.

- The Lady Braves brought back two starters and four letterwinners from last season. Despite losing their top-four leading scorers, Alcorn reloaded with eight newcomers including four JUCO transfers.
 
- Junior Jada Hargrove comes back after starting in all 30 games last year. The Lady Braves also return starting post player Jamaysha Bernard for her sophomore year.
 
- Hargrove is averaging 7.7 points and a team-high 4.7 assists per game. She started the year with back-to-back double-figure scoring games with 11 points against Lane and 10 at UTEP.
 
- Alcorn was predicted to finish eighth in the SWAC Preseason Poll. The Lady Braves ended in sixth in the standings last year.
