Lady Braves Make Short Trip Tuesday to Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Coming off its first victory of the season, the Alcorn State University women's basketball program will look to turn it into winning-streak Tuesday when it heads to Southern Miss for a 6 p.m. game at Reed Green Coliseum.
 
Alcorn (1-6) defeated Fisk University in its last outing, 67-64 Saturday. Both junior Toddriana Isler and junior Charisma Walker recorded double-doubles. Alcorn outrebounded Fisk 57-40.
 
Rebounding has been the strength of the Lady Braves this year as the team leads the SWAC in both offensive and defensive boards. They pull down 15.6 offensive and 25.9 defensive rebounds per contest.
 
Individually, Walker is the league-leader with 7.9 rebounds per game. She also scores 9.4 points per match and has primarily been used as Alcorn's sixth-man.
 
Senior De'Asia Brown leads Alcorn in scoring with 10.9 points per game. She's coming off back-to-back 14-point outings. Brown had a two-game stretch where she went 5-7 3FG with a career-high 19 points against Southeastern Louisiana and 16 points vs. Northwestern State.
 
Isler also averages in double-figures with 10.6 points per game and has three double-doubles on the year. She secures 7.4 rebounds per game which is top-five in the SWAC. Isler has two double-doubles in her last three games.
 
Junior Jada Hargrove has been a workhorse for the Lady Braves, logging a 34.3 minutes per game. Hargrove also ranks top-five in the conference in assists (4.1 apg), free throw percentage (.750) and steals (2.3 spg). She scores 9.0 points per game.
 
After the fourth game of the year, the Lady Braves added sophomore forward Jasmine Chambers to the roster. It officially made her a two-sport athlete as she's also a setter on the Alcorn volleyball team. Chambers posted two points and two rebounds in her first career game against Central Arkansas.
 
Alcorn is the third SWAC team that the Golden Eagles (5-3) will face. USM has already defeated Grambling State 68-47 and Mississippi Valley State 67-60.
 
Southern Miss is led by Shonte Hailes who averages 11.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She shoots .375 from long-range. Megan Brown is also a heavy contributor with 11.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and is 23-for-25 (.920) from the free throw line.
 
As a team, USM shoots 46.3 percent from the field and 72.6 percent from the free throw line.
 
Alcorn is 3-6 all-time against Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles snuck past the Lady Braves last season 72-67.
