Lady Braves Cut Holiday Break Short to Travel to TCU

Alcorn Game Notes | Live Radio | Live Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas – As the only sport competing this week for Alcorn State University, the women's basketball program will be in action Saturday when it heads to TCU for a 2 p.m. contest at Schollmaier Arena.

It's the non-conference finale for the Lady Braves (1-10), who will play their seventh game away from home. They will face their stiffest test of the year, going up against a 9-1 TCU squad.

Alcorn will play its first game in eight days after dropping an 82-64 decision against New Mexico State. The game was tied 32-32 at half before the Aggies were able to break away in the second. Alcorn out-rebounded NMSU 56-44.

After the game, junior Jada Hargrove earned a spot on the FIU All-Tournament team for her performances against FIU and NMSU. Hargrove rarely came off the court as she logs a conference-high 35.6 minutes per game including a pair of 40-minute outings. She scores 9.0 points per game and also rans top-five in the SWAC in steals (2.4 spg).

The Lady Braves lead the SWAC in offensive rebounding with 17.5 per game. Individually, junior Diamond Hall ranks second in the league with 3.5 offensive rebounds per outing and fourth in total rebounding with 7.3 per game. Junior Toddriana Isler is fourth in offensive boards (2.8 orpg), while junior Charisma Walker is fifth (2.5 orpg).

Three different Alcorn student-athletes have registered double-doubles this year including Hall, Isler and Walker.

Senior De'Asia Brown leads Alcorn in scoring with 10.3 points per game. She's netted at least 12 points in four of the last six games. Brown had a two-game stretch where she went 5-7 3FG with a career-high 19 points against Southeastern Louisiana and 16 points vs. Northwestern State.

Also averaging in double-figures is Walker with 10.0 points per contest. She's primarily been used off the bench but has given good production both in scoring and rebounding. Walker has scored in double-figures in six of the last seven games.

Just under double-figures is Isler with 9.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per match. Isler has three double-doubles on the year including 14 points and 12 rebounds against Central Arkansas. She opened the year with a career-high 18 points to go along with 12 rebounds against Lane College.

The Horned Frogs have notable wins over SMU 65-63, San Diego State 81-64 and Ole Miss 55-50. They've also beaten SWAC members Mississippi Valley State 96-47 and Southern 69-40. Their only loss this year was a 61-58 squeaker to BYU.

Alcorn is 2-1 all-time against TCU. Coincidentally, the last time the Lady Braves beat a Power Five conference opponent was TCU 81-65 in 1996-97. It was the second straight year Alcorn beat the Horned Frogs after a 65-59 win the year prior.

The game can be heard live on 91.7 FM or wprl.org with Charles Edmond on the call.
