Braves Release 2019 Baseball Schedule

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University baseball program will be road warriors this season as it unveiled its travel-heavy 2019 schedule, announced by head coach Bretton Richardson.

The Braves will play their first 13 games away from home, beginning with the MLB Urban Invitational on Feb. 15-17. Alcorn will open its season with neutral site games in New Orleans against Prairie View A&M, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Southern.

"This year's schedule is very competitive, but we feel good about it. The goal is for the non-conference games to prepare us for SWAC season, and by the end we look to bring home a SWAC Championship," said Alcorn head coach Bretton Richardson, who enters his fourth season at the helm.

After trips to Nicholls, Florida A&M and McNeese State, Alcorn will open conference action on the road in a three-game series at Alabama A&M on March 1-3.

Alcorn will play its home-opener on Tuesday, March 5 against Grambling State in a non-conference game. Just days later, the Braves will host their first conference weekend against Alabama State on March 8-10.

The Braves will play a three-game series against each of the SWAC East Division opponents twice, home and away.

Other non-conference games include trips to Southeastern Louisiana and UL-Monroe. Alcorn will play Tougaloo in a pair of mid-week games, once home and once away.

"I'm very excited for the upcoming season. We have a lot of newcomers and young men that I feel good about. Though, we'll be young and inexperienced a little bit at the start. Hopefully over the course of the season we can mature and be where we need to be at the end of the season," Richardson said.

The 2019 SWAC Championships are slated for May 15-19 in New Orleans. Since Alabama A&M is not eligible for the postseason, each of the other four SWAC East Division members are guaranteed a spot in the tournament.
