LORMAN, Miss. – Completing a three-game road swing, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program comes back to the Davey L. Whitney Complex to square off against Mississippi Valley State at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 p.m. Monday.
Alcorn (7-17, 3-8 SWAC) is coming off back-to-back road weekends. Most recently, the Braves were at Jackson State and Grambling State where they held leads late in the game, but the home squads caught fire at the very end to escape. Alcorn fell to JSU 60-57 and GSU 81-72.
The Braves have won two straight home matches which includes back-to-back double-figure wins over Alabama A&M and Alabama State. Alcorn beat AAMU 68-52 on Jan. 20, and ASU 81-64 on Jan. 22. The Braves are 17-5 at home over the last two seasons and 6-3 this year.
Senior
A.J. Mosby, who averages 14.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, is coming off a career-high 28 points against Grambling State. He leads the conference in assist:turnover ratio with a 2.2 mark.
Junior
Dante Sterling puts in 10.6 points per game and Howard is just under double-figures with 9.8 points per outing. Mosby, Sterling and sophomore
Maurice Howard all shoot at least 35 percent from three-point range and 75 percent from the free throw line.
On the season, Alcorn leads the conference in assists (12.3 apg) and three-pointers made per game (7.8). The Braves are second in field goal percentage defense (.433) and assist:turnover ratio (0.9). Howard sinks 2.2 threes per match which is fourth in the SWAC.
The Braves are shooting .353 from beyond-the-arc as a team in conference games. Mosby is 22-51 (.431), Sterling is 17-53 (.396) and Howard is 25-71 (.352).
MVSU (2-22, 2-9 SWAC) is coming off a 77-67 win over AAMU. The Delta Devils committed just four turnovers in the game. Jordan Evans leads the team with 13.8 points per game, while Dane Scott aids the attack with 13.5 points per outing.
UAPB (9-25, 9-2 SWAC) sits in first-place in the SWAC standings. It is looking to shake off a 65-59 defeat to ASU at home. Martaveous McKnight is one of the league's most explosive scorers and averages 19.3 points per outing.

NOTES
- Alcorn won the first meeting this year against MVSU 77-63 on Jan. 13 on the road. Mosby poured in 23 points which was a career-high at the time, and Howard drained 20 points. The duo combined to go 11-for-15 (.733) from beyond-the-arc.
- The Braves have won three in a row over the Delta Devils dating back to last year which includes a 63-60 victory in the quarterfinals of the 2017 SWAC Championships.
- Alcorn fell to UAPB 71-59 earlier this season on the road. It was UAPB's first win over Alcorn in the last five tries. The Braves are 4-1 against the Golden Lions under head coach
Montez Robinson.
- In his third season, Robinson hoists a 29-18 SWAC record. He's tallied back-to-back second-place finishes with 13-5 records in conference. It was the first back-to-back winning seasons at Alcorn in 15 years. Robinson is the reigning SWAC Coach of the Year winner.
- In addition to assist:turnover ratio, Mosby fourth in the league in assists (3.5 apg), field goal percentage (.492) and defensive rebounds (4.3 drpg), and is top-five in three-point field goal percentage (.393). He leads Alcorn in points, assists and steals.
- The Braves are undefeated this year when they shoot over 50 percent from the field.
- In Alcorn's last home weekend, Mosby registered a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds vs. AAMU, and 19 points against Alabama State. Sterling recorded a career-high 20 points against the Bulldogs. The Braves defeated AAMU for the fifth straight time, and ASU for the fourth time in the last five meetings.
- Tragedy struck Alcorn at Tulane when senior
Reginal Johnson broke his right leg. Johnson was taken off on a stretcher and transported to a nearby medical facility after an air cast was placed on his leg. Johnson is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
