GRAMBLING, La. – The Alcorn State University baseball program starts the week with a pair of non-conference games against Grambling State on Tuesday and Wednesday at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park. Both contests are scheduled for 6 p.m. starts.
The Braves (5-8, 0-3) earned a 10-6 comeback win over Tougaloo College in their season-opener last Wednesday. The Bulldogs built an early 5-0 lead through two and a half, but Alcorn scored in four-straight innings to seize control in the sixth.
Brandon Barna led Alcorn's bats as the junior outfielder hit 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park homerun, three RBIs, and a run in the DH spot.
Justin Barna finished 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a walk, and a pair of runs.
Der'Vincent Hamilton also went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run.
Wallace Rios Jimenez had a 1-for-3 effort with two RBIs, a walk, and a pair of runs.
Tyler Smith (1-0) picked up the win after entering the game in the top of the sixth with the game even at 5-5. The junior lefty faced 14 batters and struck out three in 4.0 innings of relief. He gave up one run on two hits, including a solo homerun, for a 5.06 ERA.
George Osborne III got the no decision after allowing five runs, two of them earned, on four hits and three walks. He faced 25 batters through 5.0 innings and struck out three Bulldogs.
Entering the two-game series at GSU,
Kyle Jenkins is hitting .268 and J. Barna .250 to lead Alcorn offensively. Jenkins leads the team with 11 hits and
Hunter Wilson has a team-best 11 RBIs. Rios Jimenez has drawn the most walks at 12 and
Devin Walden has swiped three bases. In the field, Wilson has 65 putouts with six assists and two errors for a .973 fielding percentage. Jenkins owns 62 putouts with seven assists and two errors for a .972 percentage.

Razedrick Winters owns a 1.59 ERA with a pair of saves in 5.2 innings pitched.
Zachary Perez has a 3.75 ERA through four appearances and 12.0 innings.
Carlos Lopez is the team's ace and has a 5.06 ERA and a 1-1 record in three starts and 16.0 innings.
Jahborus Smith also has a 5.06 ERA and is 1-2 with a save in three starts and four appearances through 16.0 innings.
The Tigers (8-8, 4-2 SWAC) are led at the plate by Isaiah Torres' .321 average, followed by Marshawn Taylor at .317 and Richards Ortiz at .295. The trio has combined for 54 hits, 36 RBIs, and 31 runs. Ortiz is the deep threat with five homers and a .541 slugging percentage, accounting for a team-high 18 RBIs. Defensively, first baseman Trevin Bolden has recorded 136 putouts with five assists for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Daniel Beizer owns a 4.22 ERA with a 1-1 record and four saves in eight appearances and 10.2 innings. Christian Marquez is at a 5.73 ERA and a 2-0 record in four appearances, one start, and 11.0 innings tossed. Raul Baduel and Anthony Hernandez are both 1-2 in four starts apiece. Baduel has a 4.57 ERA while Hernandez is at 5.25.
Alcorn and GSU met in the final game of the Andre Dawson Classic at the start of the season. Down 6-3 heading into the top of the ninth, the Braves were able to pull to within 6-5, but the Tigers held on to hand Alcorn its first loss of the season.
