Braves Head to Mississippi State Tuesday, Tougaloo Wednesday

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Alcorn State University baseball program will play two non-conference road games in as many days as the Braves (6-12) head to Mississippi State Tuesday and Tougaloo College on Wednesday.
 
"After a tough weekend, we're excited to get back on the horse with the five-game week ahead of us," said head coach Bretton Richardson. "It will ensure that we play with short memories and we turn the page to the goal of winning the week."
 
Justin Barna enters the games batting .292. Following him are Wallace Rios Jimenez at .288, Hunter Wilson at .286, and Brendly Martina at .281. Wilson has a team-high 18 hits, with Rios Jimenez right behind at 17. Wilson also leads the Braves with 18 RBIs and 104 putouts.
 
Razedrick Winters (0-1) owns a 3.46 ERA with two saves in six appearances. Zachary Perez (1-0) is close behind with a 3.50 ERA through 18.0 innings of relief. Jahborus Smith (2-2) is at a 4.50 ERA in four starts and five appearances.
 
Alcorn will meet the Bulldogs (10-10) in a 6:30 p.m. contest at Dudy Noble Field at Polk-Demont Stadium. Mississippi State was No. 19 in the nation last week but dropped out of the rankings after falling to Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday and three-straight conference losses to No. 8 Vanderbilt over the weekend.
 
The game marks the first of two against an SEC opponent this season as the Braves will play at Alabama on April 18. The Purple and Gold have played six games against SEC oppoenets during Coach Richardson's tenure and are in search of their first win. Alcorn and Mississippi State last met on March 1, 2016 when the Bulldogs won 14-0. Moses Charles hit 1-for-2 with a walk while Collin Carroll and Hamilton both went 1-for-3.
 
Tougaloo (11-11) will host Alcorn in a 1 p.m. contest at the James C. Coleman Athletic Complex. The game is the second in a home-and-away series this season. After trailing 5-0 through two and a half, the Braves rallied for a 10-6 comeback win over the Bulldogs in their home opener March 7. B. Barna hit 2-for-4 with an inside the park homerun, three RBIs, and a run. J. Barna finished 3-for-4 with a double, and RBI, a walk, and a pair of runs. Hamilton went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run. Tyler Smith secured his first win of the season after striking out three in 4.0 innings of relief.
 
The Braves have won four straight over the Bulldogs since 2016. Tougaloo is coming off a three-game series versus Rust College.
