Salvador Spends Spring Break Training with Dutch Professional Club VV Alkmaar

ALKMAAR, Netherlands – Alcorn State University women's soccer senior Alexandra Salvador used her spring break to train overseas with VV Alkmaar, a club that competes in the Dutch Women's Premier League.

"It was a great experience practicing with them," said Salvador. "The pace of play is so much faster, it's just like when I play with my national team. They have a very similar style to the soccer that I play in Ecuador, it's more tactical and not as physical."

Salvador played on the U-20 Ecuadorian women's national team, earning the role of captain, and played in the 2015 women's World Cup.

In her time with the team, the Waterloo Ontario, Canada native worked on possession, shooting, and control drills. The group then ended with a small-sided intra-squad game. Salvador also received a tour of Sportpark Robonsbosweg, the team's stadium. The tour included visiting the fields, training grounds, weight room, locker rooms, and offices.

"The training and level of play will better help me prepare for the national team and for the 2018 South American Cup, which is a qualifier for the World Cup. I'd like to get back and get another one under my belt."

Salvador was a four-year starter and team captain at Alcorn, playing in 51 career games. Primarily used as a defender, she knocked in three goals this past season to help the Lady Braves qualify for the SWAC Championships for the third time in program history and first since 2011. Salvador was second on the team in points this year and is completing her bachelor's degree in health and physical education. She plans on playing professionally in Europe after graduating this Spring.
