PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The seventh-seeded Alcorn State University men's basketball program will begin postseason play Tuesday when it travels to second-seeded Prairie View A&M at 8:30 p.m. for a road game at the William J. Nicks Building.
Â
Alcorn (11-20, 7-11 SWAC) is led by senior guard
A.J. Mosby earned a spot on the All-Conference Second-Team. He led the league in both assist:turnover ratio (2.0) and free throw percentage (.873). Mosby also ranked second in three-point percentage (.400), third in assists (3.9 apg), fourth in field goal percentage (.503) and top-five in minutes played (32.1 mpg).
Â
Mosby averages 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game on the season. In conference, he posted 16.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per outing.
Â
Mosby is one of three Braves averaging for double-figures on the year. are junior
Dante Sterling with 11.7 points per game and sophomore
Maurice Howard with 10.2. Mosby, Sterling and Howard all shoot at least 36 percent from three-point range and 73 percent from the free throw line.
Â
Howard has tied the school record for most three-pointers made in a season with 73. He needs one more to become the new leader and surpass the mark set by Cedric Foster in 1994-95 and Jonathan Boyd in 2009-10.
Â
As a team, the Braves rank first in the league with 7.6 three-pointers made per game. They shot .359 in conference. In league games, Mosby shot a .430 clip, Sterling .370 and Howard .368.
Â
PVAMU (15-17, 12-6 SWAC) is hosting a first round game for the second year in a row, but is hoping for a different result this season. Last year, the Panthers fell on their home court 81-77 to Grambling State in the opening round.
Â
PVAMU was the only team in the league with three All-Conference honorees. Zachary Hamilton was selected to the first-team, and Gary Blackston and J.D. Wallace were tabbed to the second-team. Blackston led the conference in scoring with 18.7 points per game.
Â
The Panthers swept the season-series over the Braves this year, but the teams have split the last six meetings overall.

The game can be heard for free via radio on 91.7 FM or wprl.org with Charles Edmond on the call.
