Braves Host Tougaloo in Home Opener Wednesday

LORMAN, Miss.
– The Alcorn State University baseball program plays its home opener Wednesday as the Braves (4-8, 0-3 SWAC) host Tougaloo College for a 4 p.m. game at Wille E. "Rat" McGowan Stadium.
 
The teams last met in 2016 when they met three times during the season. Alcorn won a doubleheader 4-1 and 4-0 in Jackson, Miss. on April 1. The Braves won again at TC 18-2 on April 13. A fourth game in Lorman on April 20 was cancelled.

Alcorn opened league play at Alabama State last weekend, falling in all three contests to the Hornets. Wallace Rios Jimenez scored Alcorn's lone run in Saturday's 6-1 final. The senior went 1-for-1 at the plate and drew three walks.

Kyle Jenkins is hitting .268 and Justin Barna .250 to lead Alcorn's bats. Jenkins owns a team-high 11 hits, Hunter Wilson has 11 RBIs, Rios Jimenez leads the Braves with 12 walks. In the field, Wilson has 65 putouts with six assists and two errors for a .973 fielding percentage.
 
Razedrick Winters owns a 1.59 ERA and has a pair of saves through four appearances. Zachary Perez is 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA in four appearances, and Carlos Lopez is 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA in three starts.
 
The Bulldogs (6-10) are coming off a four-game series versus Marian University, falling 3-1 to Knights. TC took game three in the series 7-3 on Sunday. Deshawn Pittman hit 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while D'Anthony Morrow finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Lige Mims, Jr. earned the win after allowing three earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. He pitched 7.0 innings for the complete-game decision.
 
Pittman and Brandon Watson are each batting .385 to lead TC at the plate. Morrow is at .308 and Isaiah Rush is hitting .300. Pittman has team highs with 20 hits, 12 RBIs, and 27 total bases. Defensively, Robert Lard owns 109 putouts with two assists and an error for a .991 fielding percentage.
 
Lige is 2-0 with two complete games and a 4.74 ERA in four starts.
 
Wednesday's game is the first in a home-and-away series as the Braves will play at TC on March 21 with a 2 p.m. scheduled start.
