Seattle Wins Series Finale 11-1

BELLEVUE, Wash. – The Alcorn State University baseball program was in a low-scoring affair with Seattle University through five and a half, but the hosts had a big bottom of the sixth to hand the Braves (8-27) an 11-1 loss Sunday in the series finale at Bannerwood Park.

Kyle Jenkins brought in Alcorn's lone run as he batted 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Justin Barna went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and a stolen base. Der'Vincent Hamilton and Jordan McGowan both hit 1-for-3 for the team's other hits.

Bukhari Brown (1-6) gave up five runs on six hits and as many walks to take the loss. The Byram, Miss. native struck out 3-of-28 batters he faced through 5.1 innings of work. Razedrick Winters and Zachary Perez also made appearances in relief.

After both teams put zeros on the board in the first three innings, the Redhawks (23-10) broke open the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Red and White led off with a double down the right field line and the runner advanced on a passed ball. A pair of walks then loaded the bases before Brown got a couple Redhawks swinging. Seattle benefited from a wild pitch, though, before the Braves secured the third out.

Alcorn answered in the top of the sixth as Barna got a one-out double to the gap in right center. The senior then stole third before coming in on a Jenkins double down the right field line. Unfortunately, the home team's bats erupted for 10 runs on six hits in the bottom half of the frame. The Seahawks then retired the side in order to finish the game in the seventh.

The Braves will wrap up their road swing Wednesday in a 6 p.m. game at Alabama.
