TUSCALOOSA, Ala.
– The Alcorn State University baseball program hits the road Wednesday as the team plays a midweek affair against Alabama at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Opening pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the game being broadcast on SEC Network+.

Alcorn dropped three road games at Seattle University last weekend and is wrapping up a six-game road swing. The series against the Redhawks marked the team's furthest trip of the season.

The Braves (8-27) are led at the plate by Justin Barna, who is hitting .298. Hunter Wilson follows with a .272 average and Wallace Rios Jimenez is batting .265. Wilson and Rios Jimenez both have 31 hits to lead the team, while Wilson owns 25 RBIs. Devin Walden has stolen 11 bases in 15 attempts.

Defensively, Kyle Jenkins has a team-high 179 putouts with 19 assists and four errors for a .980 fielding percentage. Brandon Barna adds 108 putouts with four assists and three errors (.974), and Wilson is close behind with 105 putouts, eight assists, and a pair of errors (.983).

Joe Smith (1-0) owns a 3.63 ERA through 17.1 innings and 10 relief appearances. Ace Carlos Lopez (2-2) is at a 5.44 ERA in eight starts and leads the bullpen with 55 strikeouts. Razedrick Winters (0-2) is at a 10.07 ERA in 12 relief appearances with three saves.

Texas A&M swept the Crimson Tide (21-16) in a three-game conference series in College Station, Texas last Thursday through Saturday. Alabama battled back from a 2-0 hole in the finale to send the game into extras, but a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th secured the victory for the Aggies.

Alabama hosts Samford on Tuesday to open a six-game homestand.

Chandler Avant is batting .336, Cobie Vance .320, and Keith Holcombe .281 to lead the Tide offensively. Vance and Avant have 47 and 46 hits, respectively. Chandler Taylor is the deep threat with 11 home runs on the year. Avant and Taylor have combined 59 RBIs.

Hunter Alexander has 221 putouts with 12 assists and two errors for a .991 fielding percentage. Sam Praytor is next with 163 putouts, 16 assists, and one error (.994).

Brady Greene (1-0) and Brock Love (1-0) both own a 0.00 ERA in a combined 10 relief appearances. Deacon Medders (0-2) follows with a 0.33 ERA and six saves across 13 appearances and Dylan Duarte (3-2) has a 0.92 ERA with two saves in 16 appearances.

Alabama leads the all-time series 21-1, with Alcorn's lone victory a 6-5 decision on April 15, 1987 to split two games. Wednesday marks the fourth meeting between the programs during Coach Bretton Richardson's tenure.
