LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University baseball program dropped both games in a conference doubleheader Sunday at Willie E. "Rat" McGowan Stadium to wrap up a weekend series against Alabama State University.

The Hornets (17-13, 11-4 SWAC) broke open Game One with a nine-run top of the fourth. In Game Two, Alcorn was leading 1-0 early before a six-run top of the third allowed Alabama State to take over.

A.J. Makarewicz batted 3-for-6 with a run, an RBI, and a walk and
Jordan McGowan also hit 3-for-6 with a walk through the two games played to lead the Braves (8-22, 3-12) on the day.
Wallace Rios Jimenez went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, three RBIs and a pair of bases on balls.
Kyle Jenkins also had a 2-for-5 effort at the plate with a double, a run, and two walks.
Justin Barna had the team's other double as the senior finished 2-for-6 and brought in a run. Brother
Brandon Barna also hit 2-for-6 and came around for a tally.

Bukhari Brown (1-5) took the Game One loss after surrendering 10 earned runs on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
Zachary Perez threw 1.2 innings of relief with one hit and a walk, and
Brandon Thomas closed out the remaining 2.0 innings, giving up six runs (three earned) on three hits and three walks.

Tyler Smith (1-2) was handed the Game Two loss after getting tagged for six runs (five earned) on seven hits and a walk through 2.2 innings.

Joe Smith each made appearances.

The Braves will head to Thibodaux, La. for a pair of 6 p.m. contests at Nicholls State Tuesday and Wednesday.
