LORMAN, Miss. – In its first action at the Davey L. Whitney Complex this season, the Alcorn State University volleyball program will host Wiley College at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Freshman Sydney Joseph led the Lady Braves (0-3) in Hattiesburg with 22 kills, while sophomores Jasmine Chambers and Fiapaipai Iosia chipped in 34 assists and nine service aces, respectively. Sophomore Kaylyn Latin recorded 33 digs and sophomore Daharri Thompkins had a pair of blocks.
"I've seen a positive change in the girls," said head coach Chelsey Lucas. "Last weekend helped us understand that playing this sport takes 100 percent effort in order to be successful. For us to be successful tomorrow, we have to execute the small things and stick to the game plan."
Â
The Lady Wildcats (1-0) enter Tuesday's meeting coming off a straight-set win over Philander Smith College last Friday and are in search of their first 2-0 start since 2009. Freshman Khrystyna Frank totaled 11 kills to lead Wiley past the Lady Panthers. Wiley also saw strong performances from a trio of juniors: Larissa Francisco scored eight kills with six digs, Alexia Souza had 31 assists, and Olena Fedorenko served three aces.
Â
Alcorn and Wiley met for the first time last season in the first game of a tri-match on October 17. The Lady Braves looked like they'd get the victory after claiming the first two sets, but the Lady Wildcats took the next two to force a decisive fifth. The visitors earned four-straight points to go ahead 13-8 and were able to hold off the Purple and Gold to steal the match.
