Live Stats

THIBODAUX, La. – The Alcorn State University women's soccer program returns to the pitch after a week off as the Lady Braves (0-2) play at Nicholls State Sunday. The match is set for a 1 p.m. first kick at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.

Senior Yaira Guardado scored in the opening minutes of a 2-1 loss to Mississippi University for Women last Sunday and leads Alcorn with two points on five total shots. The game against the Owls marked the first for freshman Johanna Seelhorst, who follows Guardado with four shots. Sophomore Mireya Gonzalez and junior Anjelica Dugan have each taken three shots through Alcorn's two games.

Sophomore Kameran Proby owns an 0-1 record between the posts. The McDonough, Ga. native has made 10 saves versus 34 shots faced and owns a .588 save percentage.

The Colonels improved to 1-4 on the season with a 2-1 win over Jackson State on Friday. Down 1-0 late in the game, senior midfielder Francesca Curteis scored the equalizer in the 89th minute. The import from Llanfyllin, Great Britain then notched another score six minutes later as the hosts earned the overtime victory.

Nicholls State is now 1-3 against SWAC competition this season after losses to Grambling State, Mississippi Valley State, and Prairie View A&M.

Sunday's game marks the eighth meeting between the two programs. Alcorn picked up its first win in the all-time series last season when Viktoriya Mihaylova was fouled just outside the 18-yard box in the 78th minute. The Sofia, Bulgaria native placed a shot on target that the Nicholls keeper saved, but Alexandra Salvador raced in to clean up the rebound.
