HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Alcorn State University soccer program will play a pair of games this weekend beginning Friday at Alabama A&M at 4 p.m. at Bulldog Field, followed by a 1 p.m. game Friday at Alabama State's ASU Soccer Complex.

The Lady Braves (0-7) are looking to bounce back from an 0-2 weekend to kick-off conference play. They fell to Grambling State 7-0 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff 9-0.

The road doesn't get any easier this weekend as both AAMU (2-6-1) and ASU (2-6) are 2-0 in league play. AAMU beat Jackson State 2-1 and Southern 1-0, while ASU defeated the Jaguars 2-0 and the Tigers 2-1.

Alcorn continues to try and fight through the injury bug which has significantly shortened the team's bench. Only five student-athletes on the roster have played in all seven games this year.

Senior captain
Yaira Guardado leads the team with two goals, an assist and 13 shots on the season. Freshman
Johanna Seelhorst also has a goal on the year with 11 shots.

Defensively, Alcorn has relied on freshman
Shalisha King who has started every game at center back. The Lady Braves have split team between their goalkeepers as sophomore
Kameran Proby has made 36 saves in 313:49 minutes, and junior
Giselle Rojas has recorded 23 saves in 306:20 minutes.

The Lady Braves are looking to defeat AAMU for the second straight year after posting a 3-1 win last season. Alcorn will try and avenge two heartbreaking losses to ASU last year including one in the SWAC Championships; the Lady Braves led both games 1-0 but fell 2-1.

Alcorn will return home Sunday, Oct. 7 when it hosts Howard at 1 p.m. at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium. Howard is a SWAC member in women's soccer.
