Braves Carry Momentum into Alabama State, Alabama A&M

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Coming off an unbeaten weekend, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program will look to keep rolling Saturday when it travels to Alabama State for a 5 p.m. game at Dunn-Oliver Acadome, and Monday against Alabama A&M at 7 p.m. T.M. Elmore Gym.
 
The Braves (6-12, 2-4 SWAC) posted wins over Mississippi Valley State 64-57 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff 74-69. Alcorn improved to 6-2 at home where it has outscored the opposition 627-481.
 
Sophomore Troymain Crosby is the reigning SWAC Player of the Week winner. He averaged 17.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists in wins over MVSU and UAPB. Crosby shot .542 (13-24) from the field on the week.
 
In conference games, Crosby averages a team-high 13.5 points per outing to go along with 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He scored 11.6 points per game on the season. In the win over Champion Christian, Crosby registered the second triple-double in school history with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
 
Junior Maurice Howard averages a team-high 13.2 points per game. He's shooting .955 from the free throw line and .407 from beyond-the-arc. Howard ranks second in the league in minutes played (34.5 mpg), third in assists (3.7 apg) and fourth in assist:turnover ratio (1.1).
 
Junior Deshaw Andrews averages in double-figures with 10.6 points and a team-high 5.4 rebounds per game. He tallied back-to-back 20-plus outings with 21 points and 10 rebounds against Savannah State, and a career-high 26 points and seven rebounds at Mississippi State.
 
As a team, Alcorn leads the SWAC in steals per game with 8.7. It also ranks second in the league in both assists (12.9 apg) and scoring defense (70.0 ppg).
 
The Braves, who are going for their first road win of the year, are 6-0 (2-0 SWAC) when they out-score the opposition in points in the paint.
 
The Hornets (6-10, 4-1 SWAC) are in second-place and have also won their last two games. ASU has a pair of dangerous shooters in Reginald Gee and Jacoby Ross. Gee averages 14.9 points per game and shoots .455 from long-range, while Ross scores 14.1 points per outing with a .394 mark from three.
 
The Bulldogs (2-17, 1-4 SWAC) are looking to snap a four-game skid. They have a non-conference win over Tulane 67-59. Andre Kennedey paces the offense with 10.2 points per game and also secures a team-high 5.8 rebounds per match.
 
The Braves are 4-2 against the Hornets under Robinson, but the two teams split the season series last year. Alcorn is a perfect 6-0 against the Bulldogs under Robinson.
