MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A young team seeking consistency will look to piece it all together this weekend when the Alcorn State University women's basketball program travels Saturday to Alabama State at Dunn-Oliver Acadome, followed by a 5:30 p.m. Monday contest against Alabama A&M at T.M. Elmore Gym.

The Lady Braves (3-15, 2-4 SWAC) can pick-up their first road wins of the year. They are coming off a 1-1 weekend where they took down Mississippi Valley State 73-63 before falling in the closing seconds to Arkansas-Pine Bluff 59-57.

Against MVSU, sophomore
Jamaysha Bernard posted a break-out performance with career-highs of 15 points and 17 rebounds. She followed it up with 10 rebounds against UAPB. Junior
Jada Hargrove matched her career-high with 17 points against the Golden Lions.

Alcorn leads the SWAC in offensive rebounding with 15.9 per contest. Individually, freshman
Diamond Hall is third in the conference with 2.8 offensive boards per game. The Lady Braves have only been out-rebounded one time in six conference games.

Senior
De'Asia Brown paces the offense with 11.6 points per game including 15.7 points in conference. She's scored in double-figures in all six league games. Brown had a two-game stretch where she went 5-7 3FG with 19 points against Southeastern Louisiana and 16 points vs. Northwestern State.

Hargrove has been a workhorse for the Lady Braves, logging 34.3 minutes per game. She's played 40 minutes three times. Hargrove also ranks second in the conference in steals (2.7 spg). In conference, she's averaging 11.8 points per game.

The Lady Braves have been bit by injuries all year. Most recently, they lost their starting post player, junior
Toddriana Isler, who went down against TSU. Isler had started all 13 games previously and averaged 8.8 points and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game with three double-doubles. Isler has missed the last five matches.

Four different Alcorn student-athletes have registered double-doubles this year including Bernard, Hall, Isler and junior
Charisma Walker.

The Hornets (4-12, 3-2 SWAC) have won three of their last four including a 60-46 victory over the Bulldogs (8-8, 3-2 SWAC). Ayana Emmanuel ranks third in the league in scoring with 13.5 points per game and shoots .478 (22-46) from three-point range and .805 (62-77) from the free throw line.

AAMU is .500 on the season despite not having a single student-athlete average in double-figure scoring. The Bulldogs allow just 62.3 points per game on defense. Nigeria Jones averages 9.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. AAMU has a non-conference win over Murray State 59-53.

Alcorn is going for its third straight win over Alabama State after sweeping the season-series last year. The Lady Braves won 73-41 at home and 65-57 on the road.

The Lady Braves are 5-1 against Alabama A&M under head coach
Courtney G. Pruitt who is in her fourth season. The two teams split a pair of meetings last year, each winning at home.
