LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University volleyball program will finish its homestand consisting of the SWAC Mississippi schools when it hosts MVSU at 6 p.m. Monday night in the Davey Whitney Complex.
The Lady Braves (3-15, 1-7 SWAC) have seen junior
Jasmine Chambers become a leader on the court and in the conference as she's second in the SWAC with 6.03 assists per set and top-10 in aces per set (0.25).
Fellow junior
Fiapaipai Iosia is currently the only other Lady Brave among the SWAC's best as she's third in the league with 3.73 digs per set despite missing three of the last four matches.
Sophomore
Sydney Joseph paces Coach Robinson's bunch with 2.14 kills per set (124 total) while sophomore
Simone Barren tops the team at 0.60 blocks per set (36.0 total).
Scouting the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes (3-20, 0-7 SWAC)
Valley is the last SWAC school that has yet to win a conference game and has claimed only three victories in 23 tries this season, all versus NAIA competition (Tougaloo twice and Crowley's Ridge).
Chardea Berthelot is the squad's best player, leading the league in service aces per set (0.36), is second in total aces (21) and ranks inside the top-10 for blocks per set (0.64).
Ariana Austin takes up the spot right behind Berthelot on the SWAC aces per set leaderboard with 0.33 while both Jessica Bell and Tylia Dixon land among the conference's ten highest digs per set marks at 2.94 and 2.86, respectively.
The Lady Braves lead the Delta Devilettes in the all-time series by a count of 46-35 with the two clubs splitting its meetings during the 2018 season.
