MEMPHIS – The Alcorn State University men's basketball program couldn't find its rhythm Saturday in a 102-56 defeat at 13th-ranked Memphis at FedExForum.
Â
Junior
Isaiah Attles turned in a career-high 13 points to lead Alcorn (1-3). Junior
Troymain Crosby also reached double-figures with 10 points and five rebounds. It was Crosby's 30th career double-digit scoring game.
Â
The Braves were without senior
Maurice Howard, a Preseason All-Conference First-Team selection, due to an injury sustained earlier in the week at practice.
Â
Memphis (3-1) were led by Lester Quinones who finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Precious Achiuwa ended with 20 points and eight rebounds.
Â
Alcorn's only lead of the game came at the beginning after Crosby converted an old-fashion three-point play to put the team up 3-2. Alcorn was down just 18-16 at the 11:05 mark after junior
Kobe Wilson hit a jumper.
Â
The Tigers broke it open near the end of the first half. They went on a 24-2 run in the final seven minutes.
Â
It was the first meeting between the two teams since 1993-94 and the fourth-ever.
Â
The Braves will remain on the road for another stiff test Tuesday when they travel to N.C. State at 6 p.m. on ESPN3. Their next home game is Thursday against Our Lady of the Lake at 5:30 p.m.
