PLAY-BY-PLAY SUMMARY
Both teams punted on their first two possessions as the game started slow. The Braves started moving it late in the first after a 29-yard completion to Anderson placed the ball at the GSU 11. The Braves settled for a 20-yard field goal as senior Corey McCullough drilled it in to give Alcorn a 3-0 lead early in the second quarter.

The Tigers started their ensuing possession with great field position at the Alcorn 47 after a big return by Jakari Nichols, bundled with a 15-yard sideline interference called on the Braves. GSU advanced to the GSU 15 after a 15-yard completion to Lyndon Rash, but were stopped there. Mendez evened the score 3-3 with a 32-yard field goal at the 11:39 mark in the second.

GSU stopped Alcorn defensively and then blocked a punt to setup at the Alcorn 11. The Tigers took the lead 10-3 on an 11-yard pass on the back-left corner.

Late in the half, the Braves were on the move after Duffey broke lose for a 31-yard run. Harper connected with Anderson for 17 yards to get into the red zone, and scored on a 19-yard pass to Anderson to knot it up 10-10 going into the break.

Quoting Alcorn head coach Fred McNair
Opening Statement
"This was a tough loss for us against a tough Grambling team. I credit Grambling for making enough plays to win the ball game, and we obviously didn't do enough. We didn't finish drives and we threw interceptions in the red zone. We couldn't sustain drives and that cost us the ball game. We fought hard, but we gave up two touchdowns and there's a lot of things that we need to clean-up. We have to be able to execute, but we didn't do a good job of it today."

On what GSU's defense was doing that gave Alcorn's offense trouble
"They're big and tall, and batted a few balls down, but Felix also missed a lot of throws. We had some open guys, but didn't make the play. We ran the ball well at times, and we threw the ball well at times, but we made too many mistakes."

On Alcorn's defense holding GSU's offense in-check
"Our defense played an outstanding game. Other than giving up those two big touchdowns, our defense made a lot of great stops. We wanted to create some turnovers and we came up with a pair of interceptions. For the most part, the defense played a solid ball game."

On what the message was to the team after the game
"We have to execute better. There's a lot of basic, fundamental stuff that we need to address. We made too many mental mistakes and it resulted in a lot of penalties. We were playing behind the chains too much and we couldn't sustain drives or overcome those mistakes. We as coaches have to do a better job of getting the team prepared."
