Taylor, Triplett Sweep SWAC Player of the Week Honors

LORMAN, Miss. – Both SWAC weekly honors went to the Alcorn State University softball program as senior Paige Taylor was named the Pitcher of the Week, while junior Brittney Triplett was tabbed the Hitter of the Week.

In a doubleheader sweep over Kentucky State, Taylor pitched every inning and was 2-0. In her two complete-games, she surrendered just one run and a .143 opposing batting average.

"Paige had a great day Friday. She really carried us. She gave up one run and really did well the rest of the way. I was really proud of her leadership," said Alcorn head coach Josef Rankin.

The right-hander tallied a 0.58 ERA on the weekend in 12.0 frames with six strikeouts. Taylor has never allowed a home run in her two years at Alcorn.

Triplett turned in a big weekend at the plate. She was 6-for-10 with six runs scored and a couple of RBI's. She hit for a .600 average and .667 on-base percentage.

"Brittney is learning how to compete and be a leader for us. She's starting to understand the expectations for being a shortstop and leadoff batter. I am really happy for her," Rankin said.

Triplett was also a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases and posted a 1.000 fielding percentage from the shortstop position. She helped Alcorn take two out of three from Kentucky State including a doubleheader sweep Friday.

"They are both scratching the surface of what they can really do for us this year," Rankin said.

The duo will be back in action Wednesday when the Lady Braves travel to Southern Miss for a 4 p.m. doubleheader in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
