LORMAN, Miss. – In its final home games of the 2018-19 season, the Alcorn State University women's basketball program will host Alabama State at 3 p.m. Saturday, and Alabama A&M at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
Alcorn (4-21, 3-10 SWAC) will honor senior
De'Asia Brown on Saturday's Senior Day. Brown is the team's leading scorer with 12.2 points per game and 14.6 in conference. She's reached double-figures in 12 of 13 league matches. Brown has scored 417 points in her two years at Alcorn so far.
The Lady Braves are coming off a 1-1 weekend on the road. It included an 81-80 overtime victory over Mississippi Valley State where they erased a 15-point third quarter deficit. Brown turned in a career-night with 27 points.
Alcorn leads the SWAC in offensive rebounds with 16.4 per game, and ranks second in three-point percentage at a .311 mark. Individually, junior
Toddriana Isler is second in the league in offensive rebounds (2.0 orpg) and fourth in total rebounds (7.0 rpg). She also scores 9.0 points per outing.
Junior
Jada Hargrove scores in double-figures with 10.6 points per game. She's the only Lady Brave to start in all 25 games. Hargrove ranks third in the SWAC in minutes (32.9 mpg), and top-five in both assists (4.0 apg) and steals (2.1 spg).
In conference games this year, the Lady Braves have outscored the opposition 242-239 in the fourth quarter. Alcorn is shooting .349 from beyond-the-arc in conference games and holds the opposition to a .335 clip.
ASU (9-14, 8-4 SWAC) has won six of its last eight games. The Hornets hold teams to just a .344 field goal percentage in conference, which ranks first in the league. Ayana Emmanuel scores a team-high 13.4 points per game, while Shmya Ward averages 10.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing.
AAMU (12-11, 7-5 SWAC) enters the weekend on a three-game winning-streak. The Bulldogs give up just 60.3 points per game in conference, the fewest in the SWAC. Nigeria Jones is the only Bulldog averaging double-figures with 10.7 points per match.
Alcorn is 5-2 against Alabama A&M under head coach
Courtney G. Pruitt who is in her fourth season. Against Alabama State, the Lady Braves have won two of the last three including a season-sweep last year.
The Lady Braves will look to avenge road defeats earlier this year at ASU 76-63 and AAMU 87-69.
