Lady Braves Host GSU, JSU to Begin Second Half of Conference Play; Purple Out Saturday

LORMAN, Miss. – Looking to begin the second half of the SWAC season on a high-note, the Alcorn State University women's basketball program will host Jackson State at 3 p.m. Saturday and Grambling State at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
 
Saturday's game will be a Purple Out.
 
All three of Alcorn's wins this season have come at home. The Lady Braves (3-18, 2-7 SWAC) lead the SWAC in both three-point percentage (.328) and offensive rebounding (15.9 orpg). Senior De'Asia Brown shoots .403 (25-62) from long-range, while junior Jada Hargrove shoots .400 (26-65).
 
Brown paces the offense with 11.7 points per game including 14.4 points in conference. She's scored in double-figures in all nine league games.
 
Hargrove averages 10.2 points per game on the year and 12.4 in conference. Hargrove has played 40 minutes four times. She ranks second in the SWAC in minutes, and fourth in both assists and steals.
 
The Lady Braves returned junior Toddriana Isler after she missed five games due to injury. She records 8.8 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per outing. She has three double-doubles on the season.
 
Four different Alcorn student-athletes have registered double-doubles this year including sophomore Jamaysha Bernard, freshman Diamond Hall, Isler and junior Charisma Walker.
 
In conference games this year, the Lady Braves have outscored the opposition 165-164 in the fourth quarter.
 
JSU (8-12, 4-5 SWAC) is on a three-game winning streak with victories over GSU 77-74, MVSU 87-56 and UAPB 60-41. The Lady Tigers lead the league in field goal percentage with a .426 mark. Marneisha Hamer leads the team with 14.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, and shoots .550 from the floor.
 
GSU (9-12, 6-3 SWAC) has seen their star player Shakyla Hill make national headlines after tallying her second career quadruple-double with 26 points, 16 rebounds, 13 assists and 10 steals against UAPB. She's the only player to ever do it twice in the NCAA Division I era. Hill leads the conference in scoring (19.2 ppg), assists (6.0 apg) and steals (4.6 spg).
