NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Alcorn State University baseball program got a stellar pitching performance from senior Bukhari Brown but the Braves bats stalled in a 4-1 defeat to Prairie View A&M, ending the 2019 campaign.
In his final career start as a Brave, Bukhari Brown (3-7) got saddled with a tough luck loss. The native of Byram, Mississippi went 8.0 strong innings, allowing only four runs on eight hits while whiffing five Panther batters.
Sophomore Edward Jackson drove in the lone run of the contest with an RBI single to dead center in the fifth.
Senior Brendly Martina was the only Brave to cross the plate, hitting a two-out triple in the process.
Senior Brandon Barna and junior Jordan McGowan picked up the team's other two hits on the day.
Through the first four innings the pitchers were dealing, as PVAMU's starter Tyler Laux did not surrender a hit while Alcorn's Bukhari Brown had only given up one run and three hits, 1-0 Prairie View.
Bretton Richardson's club recorded its first hit of the contest via a Martina two-out triple in the fifth and subsequently got its run one pitch later as Edward Jackson smacked an RBI single to knot the score at one.
The pitchers went back to dominating through the start of the eighth as the two hurlers combined to surrender only three hits in that span.
The Panthers pulled ahead with three runs in the top of the eighth and Alcorn went three-up, three-down over the final two frames as Prairie View ended the Braves season with a 4-1 win over the boys from Lorman.
Alcorn baseball finishes the year with a record of 14-31 and 7-16 in the SWAC.

Looking Forward To Next Season (2020)
"We are going to put a competitive ballclub out there on the field. We are going to continue to fight, scratch, claw and look for ways to try to get better. We got to get better on the pitcher's mound, we got to get better in the field. My philosophy as a coach is to always go out and try to find guys to replace the guys that I have, what I want to try to do is to have a competitive environment where every job is up for grabs and nobody gets complacent thinking they got a job made so I want to try and go out there and get the best athlete that's going to represent Alcorn State University. Go Braves!"
