LORMAN, Miss. - More experience and leadership was added to the Alcorn State University women's basketball staff with the addition of assistant coach
Mike Pittman, announced by head coach
Courtney G. Pruitt.
Pittman spent last season at Paul Quinn and helped the Lady Tigers reach the Final Four of the USCAA Tournament.
"I would like to thank Coach Pruitt for this tremendous opportunity," said Pittman. "Alcorn Women's Basketball has a rich longstanding tradition and I am thankful that I will be able to have a place in it."
Pittman oversaw an offense that finished inside the top-20 of the NAIA at 76.0 points per game and a field-goal percentage of .425. Pittman also elevated his athletes' defensive prowess, placing 14th and eighth, respectively, in rebounds per game (43.0) and steals per game (13).
"We are delighted to have
Coach Pittman aboard," said Pruitt. "He will be a tremendous asset to our program."Â
Prior to his stint at Paul Quinn, Pittman was the Head Coach at Kimball High School in Dallas for two seasons, and Grambling Lab High School in Grambling, Louisiana for one. He coached a Wendy's' High School Heisman State Winner while at Kimball and earned a trip to the Class 1A Playoffs to go along with a top-10 ranking in his tenure at Grambling Lab.
Pittman was selected to present at the WBCA Women's Final Four in 2018 and was chosen to participate in a leadership workshop in cooperation with the WBCA and the U.S. Marine Corps this past spring.
Pittman was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and earned his bachelor's degree in radio and television broadcasting at Grambling State University.
