Lady Braves Tie Blazers In Preseason Tune-Up

Jackson, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's soccer team used a late equalizing goal from senior Anjelica Dugan to come away with a 1-1 tie at Belhaven Bowl Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The game was a defensive struggle for the majority of the contest as the Blazers outshot the Lady Braves with 12 shots on goal compared to three for Alcorn.

Belhaven's Gabby Brentz opened the scoring in the 34th minute as she guided it into the net to give the home side a 1-0 lead. The score remained locked in over the next 49 minutes as the Blazers looked to be on its way to an exhibition match victory.

Veteran midfielder Anjelica Dugan made sure that the Lady Braves would crack the scoreboard, dropping a beautiful arching equalizer goal from the far right side at 13 yards out in the 83rd minute to seal the 1-1 outcome.

Junior Mireya Gonzalez and senior Christina Grybos both contributed shots on goal for the purple and gold while freshman Kali Helms recorded 11 saves in her first collegiate action.

Alcorn will open up the regular season at home this Friday afternoon when the Lady Braves host Jacksonville State University at 4 p.m. inside Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium.
