LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's soccer program will begin the 2019 regular season with two home games this weekend against Jacksonville State on Friday and Louisiana Tech on Sunday at Spinks-Casem Stadium.
Senior
Anjelica Dugan scored the lone goal of the preseason match at Belhaven on Wednesday when she sailed a gorgeous left-footed rainbow over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net during the 83rd minute to end the contest knotted at one.
Freshman
Kali Helms fared well in goal in her Lady Braves debut, stopping 11 of 12 shots aimed in her direction.
Jacksonville State dropped its exhibition match versus UAB 2-1 on August 16 and are picked to finish 11th in the Ohio Valley Conference after going 4-11-3 with a 2-7-1 conference record in 2018.
This will be first ever meeting between the schools in women's soccer.
Louisiana Tech will travel to Southeastern Louisiana on Friday night before making the trek to Lorman Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Techsters are projected to tie for sixth place in Conference USA this season, coming off a 13-5-2 overall campaign with a 5-3-1 conference mark. LTU had one player represented on their preseason all-conference team in junior defender Elizabeth Doll.
Alcorn and Louisiana Tech played last season for the first time but the game was cancelled due to lightning strikes in the area during the 41st minute.
