LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University volleyball program will get one last tune-up before SWAC action begins when it faces the University of Louisiana at Monroe at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Alcorn has been in the top half of the SWAC in regard to aces per set (1.12) and opponents hitting percentage (.271).
Reigning SWAC Setter of the Week
Jasmine Chambers is the best in the conference for earning service aces as she has 0.42 per set. Chambers is also among the conference's top-eight for assists per set at 5.27.
Junior
Fiapaipai Iosia is the Lady Braves other representative inside the top-five rankings in the SWAC, contributing 3.50 digs per set.
The defensive specialist/libero is 60 digs away from being the program's all-time career digs leader, a title currently held by Donna Kelly with 1,031 from 2009-2012.
Sophomore
Simone Barren and freshman Jéda Curry round out the Alcorn players among the SWAC leader boards as Barren has 0.77 blocks per set and Curry is tallying 2.25 kills per set.
Scouting the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (7-5, 0-0 Sun Belt)
ULM has feasted on SWAC opponents so far in 2019 as they are 5-0 against the conference while only going 2-5 against other competition.
The Warhawks have been elite in terms of aces on the year, smacking 1.81 per set which is top-30 nationally to go along with 65 total aces that places in the top-50. Louisiana-Monroe also thrives at taking advantage of its quality attacks as it is top-third in the Sun Belt at a .260 hitting percentage.
Kate Blasingame is ULM's one-woman wrecking ball, placing top-five in the conference for aces per set (0.50), attacks per set (11.11), kills per set (3.86), points per set (4.50) and service aces (14). Mikaela Worley joins Blasingame among the conference's best as she's top-eight in kills per set (3.74) and points per set (4.13) while Albany Schaffer is on the list at 126 total digs.
The Lady Braves and Warhawks have played each other seven times with Louisiana-Monroe winning each match. The last meeting took place on September 8, 2017 in Jacksonville, Alabama with ULM winning in straight sets.
