Lady Braves Travel To LSUA, Host SCSU

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's soccer program will be back in action over the next four days, traveling to LSU-Alexandria on Thursday before a home contest with South Carolina State on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Giselle Rojas and freshman Kali Helms split time in the net for the Lady Braves, with each starting one full game apiece between the pipes. Rojas played the full 90 minutes in the field against Jacksonville State and notched 11 saves versus Louisiana Tech while Helms started the season opener versus JSU, racking up 13 saves.

The Lady Braves lead the nation in saves per game (12.50) over its two matches.
 
Scouting the LSU-Alexandria Generals (September 5 at 4 p.m.)
LSUA is currently 2-1 on the season with wins over Central Baptist College (12-1) and Evangel (2-0) while dropping the match with #1 ranked NAIA school William Carey (0-4).

The Generals were picked to finish third in the NAIA's Red River Athletic Conference and have had three of the conference's four players of the week in 2019.

Jordan Thibodeaux and Brandi Menephee have swept the Offensive Player of the Week Awards so far with goalkeeper Delmy Perez earned Defensive Player of the Week to open the campaign.

Menephee leads the team with four goals scored in three games, Perez has logged 12 saves including a shutout of Evangel and two separate Generals have had four assists this season.

Alcorn and LSU-Alexandria met for the first time last season in Lorman where the Generals took the victory by a score of 4-2.
 
Scouting the South Carolina State Bulldogs (September 8 at 1 p.m.)
SCSU has fell in both games its played, falling to Wofford (1-5) and North Dakota (0-2). It will play at Mississippi Valley State on Friday before coming to The Reservation on Sunday.

The Lady Bulldogs lone goal came off the foot of Elizabeth McGee with the assist credited to Jordan Crawford. South Carolina State has had seven shots with three on goal during the campaign.

This will be the first ever meeting in women's soccer between the Lady Braves and Lady Bulldogs.
