Kirdis Clark Wins First Career SWAC Player of the Week Award

LORMAN, Miss. - Alcorn State University women's basketball guard Kirdis Clark was rewarded for her huge weekend with SWAC Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

A native of nearby Natchez, Mississippi, Clark had the game of her life Monday evening at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, pouring in a career-high 23 points and nine field goals to fuel the Lady Braves come-from-behind victory.

The former Hinds Community College transfer was mostly held in check for the first two quarters before erupting for 17 second-half points. She was lighting up the floor, converting 9-of-12 (.750) shots in the game while also contributing four rebounds and three assists.

Her numbers during wins at Mississippi Valley State and UAPB came out to an average of 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and an assist per game to go along with a .682 (15-for-22) shooting percentage.

Clark has come into her own as the calendar flipped to 2020 as she's averaged 14.3 points per game in six SWAC contests as well as pulling down 4.2 rebounds a night, swiping 12 steals and recording seven assists over that timeframe.

On the season, the junior has made 43.3 percent (58-of-134) of her field goals, the highest number of all Lady Braves with at least 115 shot attempts. She is top-three on the team in points per game (8.3), free-throw percentage (.667) and three-pointers made (10).

Clark and the Lady Braves return to The Reservation on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. when they will host the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs, hoping to improve its season-high winning streak to four games.
