LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's soccer program has added another representative in the CONCACAF U20 World Cup Qualifiers as incoming Delta State transfer Ella Dennis will represent the island of Jamaica, joining sophomore
Shalisha King in the upcoming tournament.
Dennis, a native of Ajax, Ontario, Canada, has dual citizenship between Canada and Jamaica due to her father, Marvyn, being of Jamaican descent.
"Congratulations to our newest addition to the Brave soccer family, Ella Dennis, on her selection to Jamaica's National U20 team for CONCACAFÂ U20 World Cup Qualifiers in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic," said Alcorn women's soccer head coachÂ
Junior Noel. "Ella's willingness to join the Brave family is a testament to what we do here, which is to prepare the whole athlete for the next level. I feel confident that Ella would represent the Brave name and legacy with distinction."
Ella Dennis comes to The Reservation after spending the last two years at Division II Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. Dennis is a goalkeeper who will be considered a redshirt junior after sitting out last season with the Lady Statesmen.
Her freshman campaign (2018) for DSU saw her play in four matches with two starts as she made eight saves and allowed only four goals (1.91 goals against average) while picking up her first career win over Millsaps on September 25.
There will be 16 teams in the tournament while Jamaica will be a part of Group E which includes Canada, Guatemala and the El Salvador.
The tournament will take place in the Dominican Republic from February 22 to March 8 with the club getting together for camp February 10 through 20.
Jamaica would not play Trinidad & Tobago (
Shalisha King's squad) unless both teams advanced to the championship game, which takes place on March 8 in Santo Domingo.
The first match will be against Guatemala at Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic on February 22.
