LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's basketball program released its 2020-21 schedule, featuring four non-conference contests followed by a full league slate, head coach
Nathaniel Kilbert announced Wednesday.
"Both our conference and non-conference schedules will be challenging, but we look forward to taking on that challenge," said Kilbert. "That's what we've been teaching our young ladies – to put forth your best effort in every game and the level of success that you have won't be limited. We're looking forward to the start of the season."
Alcorn opens the season with a condensed non-league road swing stretching throughout the remainder of 2020, making stops at Southeastern (Nov. 25), Wichita State (Nov. 30), Ole Miss (Dec. 8), and New Orleans (Dec. 22).
League-play remains a double round robin format where each institution plays each other twice – once at home and once on the road.
The Lady Braves take the court against Texas Southern (Jan. 2) at the Davey L. Whitney Complex for the first time in 2021, serving as both their home and conference opener. Next, Prairie View A&M (Jan. 4) visits to cap Alcorn's home-opening weekend contests. The following weekend, the Lady Braves head to Jackson State (Jan. 9) and Grambling State (Jan. 11) before returning to host Mississippi Valley State (Jan. 16) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Jan. 18). Winding down its first month of league play, the Lady Braves face Alabama State (Jan. 23) and Alabama A&M (Jan. 25) on the road.Â
A three-game home stand carries the Lady Braves into February as they welcome league opponents Southern (Jan. 30), Jackson State (Feb. 6), and Grambling State (Feb. 8). Up next, Alcorn concludes its home-and-home series on the road at Mississippi Valley State (Feb. 13) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Feb. 15). Closing out the month, Alcorn turns its sights to a pair of home matches versus Alabama State (Feb. 20) and Alabama A&M (Feb. 22) before embarking on the start of its final road stretch at Southern (Feb. 27).
Alcorn concludes its regular-season slate with a visit to the Lone Star state to take on Texas Southern (March 4) and Prairie View A&M (March 6).
The 2020-21 SWAC Women's Basketball Championship is set for March 9-13, with the semifinals and finals taking place at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
