HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana converted 13 three-pointers and nearly eclipsed the century mark in a season-opening 99-65 win over the Alcorn women's basketball team Wednesday at the University Center.
Five different Lady Lions tallied double-digit efforts, paced by Bryana Langford's 18 points, contributing to a lights-out 0.642Â from the floor and a 0.650Â clip from deep.
Cayla Obillo had a career day for the Lady Braves, leading the offense with her own 18-point effort in the paint while senior Kirdis Clark chipped in 12, being one of two Lady Braves to drain a three on the afternoon.
The Lady Lions set the tone early, draining six treys and recording 32 points in the opening quarter to build a sizable edge that would hold throughout the contest. Alcorn found early success at the charity stripe, sinking 8-of-12 attempts in the first to stay within striking distance.
Obillo scored the opening six points for the Lady Braves to draw within 10 twice to begin the second, but they would get no closer the rest of the way as SLU continued to knock down shots and finish out the half on a 16-7 run.
Alcorn produced its best offensive scoring effort in the third with 19 points, with Tyginae Wright and Obillo accounting for more than half of the point production. Â
SLU continued to roll in the final stanza, shooting 8-for-11 from the floor to cruise to its first season-opening victory since 2011.
In addition to their double-digit efforts, Obillo and Clark each dished out a team-high three assists.
Alcorn continues its four-game road stretch with a Monday (Nov. 30) evening game against Wichita State at 6 p.m.
