Lady Braves Suffer Setback at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss used double-digit scoring contributions from six different players to extend the Alcorn women's basketball team's slide to three games with a 104-48 decision over the Lady Braves Tuesday night at The Pavilion at Ole Miss.

A Kirdis Clark free throw in the opening 30 seconds knotted it for the only time in the contest, as Ole Miss engineered a 12-0 outburst to seize the lead and never look back. Cayla Obillo lifted a three to break the Rebels' spurt as Alcorn finished the first 4-for-6 from the field.

Aysha Kirkland's layup at the 9:16 mark in the second kickstarted a 6-0 Lady Braves' streak, with Kirkland scoring all five of her second-quarter points during the run. Ole Miss finished out the first half on its own 19-9 stretch to effectively double its lead heading into intermission.

Ole Miss continued to roll, holding the Lady Braves to six points over the ensuing third quarter. A pair of layups from Obillo and Clark in the first five minutes signaled Alcorn's only conversions of the quarter as the offense stalled for the remainder of the period.

Alcorn's best offensive production came in the final stanza, as Kirkland added six while Deja Mitchell accumulated four of her total five points. Nathaniel Kilbert's squad finished the fourth shooting at a 46.2 (6-for-13) clip, marking their highest quarter percentage on the night.

Kirkland posted a career-best and team-high 13 points for the Lady Braves while Clark, Obillo, and Diamond Hall each chipped in eight. Jamaysha Bernard made her season debut with five boards.

Up next on Alcorn's schedule is a Dec. 22 visit to New Orleans for a noon tip inside Lakefront Arena.
