LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University baseball program will look to halt a five-game skid on Tuesday evening when it battles the University of New Orleans at 6:30 p.m. inside Maestri Field.
Alcorn (2-6, 0-3 SWAC) hung tough with the #4 Mississippi State Bulldogs on the road on Wednesday, staying within striking distance the entire game during an 8-4 loss.
The Braves bats have provided power to the offense by jacking six home runs (third in SWAC) for an average of 0.75 (first in SWAC) per game while placing second in the conference with 6.4 runs per ballgame. Long balls have accounted for 12 of the club's 51 runs scored on the season or 23.5 percent.

Travaris Cole ranks top-20 nationally in RBI per game (1.50) and top-30 for home runs per game (0.38) Cole's also second in the conference with three homers, third in slugging percentage at .676 and fifth for RBI with 12 while leading the Braves in batting average (.382), runs scored (8) and total bases (23).
Sophomore
Tristin Garcia has currently reached base safely in 13 straight contests dating back to last season. Garcia leads the conference with 1.67 hits per game while placing top-50 in the NCAA at 1.33 RBI a game and being the toughest player to strikeout in the SWAC (14.0).

George Osborne III tops the SWAC with two saves which is good enough for a top-40 placement among all NCAA pitchers.
Sophomore
Tyler Daniels has manned the leadoff spot for each game and has proved to be one of the most patient hitters in the NCAA, ranking seventh nationally with 1.38 walks per game and top-40 for total walks (11).

Kyle Jenkins is currently seventh on the program's all-time home runs list (14) after clubbing nine last year, the eighth-most in a single season. The catcher is currently 13 hits shy of becoming the 49th member of the program's 100-hit club.

Jose Fernandez has seized the ace role atop the Braves' starting rotation, pitching to a team-best 3.94 ERA, 13 strikeouts and .271 batting average against over 16.0 innings while allowing just seven runs.
Scouting the New Orleans Privateers
UNO (7-5) won its weekend series over Connecticut by taking two-out-of-three from the Huskies. The silver and blue has played three SWAC schools already this season when it played host for the Andre Dawson Classic, losing its two contests with Southern and Grambling State before defeating Prairie View A&M.
The Privateers have been one of the more consistent offenses in the Southland Conference through the first few weeks, placing top-three for hits (100), home runs (6), on-base percentage (.365), runs scored (74), sacrifice flies (7) and scoring offense (6.2).
Pearce Howard is the top run producer on the Lakefront, ranking top-35 in the NCAA with 15 RBI (1.25 per game) while leading the Southland with three long balls.
Beau Bratton has been an extra-base machine in the 11 games he's played in, notching four doubles and a triple to account for half of his overall hits (10) to go along with a .294 average.
Luther Woullard has been a tough out for New Orleans, slashing .360 / .431 / .520 while driving in ten RBI and scoring another eight times.
The UNO pitching staff has been solid through 12 games, averaging a strikeout per inning and holding a respectable 3.59 ERA as a whole. Fronting the charge has been Brandon Mitchell as he's given up only one run in 11.2 innings pitched while producing a 0.77 ERA with opposing batters hitting only .146 off of him.
Alcorn has yet to defeat the University of New Orleans in ten previous meetings. The last time the Braves and Privateers played, UNO swept the Braves in a three-game series during the 2017 campaign.
